Tsuru
Original Watercolor Painting by Maru
Reimagined '神奈川沖浪裏' by Hokusai
The idea came to mind when my sister was sharing a short story about a literary piece in Cebuano literature she had to read for her post graduate studies“Tsuru” by Macario D. Tiu, the origami paper crane serving as a central symbol of friendship and connection, and the waves from Hokusai's piece, symbolizing the immense, untamed power of nature which is in contrast with the fragility of the origami (human nature).
In this case, the origami is depicted as an oversized, boat-like appearance, reconceptualized from the original fishermen from the woodblock, navigating through the storm, swaying with the wave rather than fleeing.
